On the above date at about 9:27 PM Paradise Police Officers responded to a report of a male subject, seen on surveillance, inside Paradise Cinema 7. The cinema has been closed since the Camp Fire in 2018 and has repeatedly been broken into and vandalized over the years.
On arrival, officers set up a perimeter and witnessed the suspect attempting to exit the cinema through a side door. The suspect was detained without incident and identified as 19-year-old Paradise resident, Azlan Delaunay-Vandal. Further investigation revealed Delaunay-Vandal forced entry into the building with a crowbar and was staging items to steal when discovered by officers. Delaunay-Vandal told officers he was bored and got the idea to enter the building from watching others on YouTube explore abandoned buildings.
Delaunay-Vandal was booked into Butte County Jail on a felony charge of 459 PC (Burglary) and a misdemeanor charge of 466 PC (Possession of Burglary Tools).
