For Immediate Release: PPD Case 25-0245, Threats/Hate Crime

Date: March 24, 2025

On 03/24/2025 at approximately 8:15 PM, Paradise Police Officers responded to the Terry Ashe Recreation Center, located at 6626 Skyway, to investigate a report of a male subject threatening and harassing juveniles who were playing basketball at the location.

Upon arrival, officers contacted several juvenile subjects, their parents, and a single male subject. The male subject was identified as Brandon Bocanegra, a 44-year-old transient from the Chico area. The investigation revealed that Bocanegra singled out one of the juveniles and verbally threatened and intimidated him. It was further determined Bocanegra threatened the juvenile with physical harm while yelling racially biased epithets and sexually explicit, suggestive language.

Officers noted Bocanegra presented visible signs consistent with alcohol intoxication. Upon the completion of the investigation, Bocanegra was placed under arrest for threatening to assault the juvenile with a deadly weapon, hate crimes, annoy/molest a minor, and public intoxication. Bocanegra was transported to the Butte County Jail and booked without incident on the above violations.

It is the priority of the Paradise Police Department to ensure our citizens have free access to public spaces without fear of danger, harassment, and abuse.

If anyone has further information to provide regarding this investigation, please contact the Paradise Police Department at 530-872-6241.
