INVESTIGATION ONGOING IN PARADISE SHOOTING

An Oroville man accused of fatally shooting a Magalia man was released from custody today as the Paradise Police Department and Butte County District Attorney continue their investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.

Kindall Alan Woodward, 32, was arrested in the early morning hours of September 22, 2024, for fatally shooting Tyler Elijah Simmons, 21.

The shooting occurred inside the attached garage of a residence belonging to Woodward’s brother. According to witnesses and other evidence, words were exchanged between a group associated with Woodward and a group associated with Simmons before Simmons entered the garage and was shot.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said his office is working with the Paradise Police Department to continue the investigation. Ramsey said additional information is needed to evaluate potential claims of self-defense and defense of home by suspect Woodward before the filing of any criminal complaint.
