Press Release PPD Case 24-0641

On 07/22/2024 at about 5:59 PM Paradise Police Officers responded with lights and sirens "Code-3" to a report of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Pentz Road and Wagstaff Road.

While responding, officers learned one of the involved parties, fled the location on foot. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle occupied by an 82 year-old female Paradise resident. The other vehicle, a black 2017 Nissan, was located south of the intersection and was unoccupied.

Bystanders and witnesses at the scene advised officers, the driver, who was later identified as 40 year-old Magalia resident Shayla Wright, fled the scene on foot. Officers were then directed toward the yard of Foothill Lumber where Wright was attempting to hide from officers throughout the piles of lumber. Wright was contacted and immediately detained.

During the contact with Wright, officers noted she displayed outward signs consistent with being under the influence of alcohol. Wright refused to submit to field sobriety tests on the scene and was placed under arrest for DUI as well as hit and run with injuries. The other driver suffered minor injuries, and was provided medical care in the field.

Wright was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment related to injuries she sustained in the collision. Wright was then transported to Butte County Jail where she was booked on multiple felony charges related to the DUI collision and hit and run. Officers remained on scene until both vehicles were removed from the roadway.

The Paradise Police would like to thank the citizens who provided information as to Wright's whereabouts during the investigation.
